Safety management systems in the logistics chain
In today's global economy, security management is an increasingly complex challenge for all industries and especially for supply chains. Logistic processes often run across borders. Supply chain partners operate worldwide and are often confronted with changing national regulations and business processes. Companies want to ensure an increased level of security both in the identification of potential risks and in risk assessment and the implementation of measures to minimise risks and hazards. In this way, it is possible to prevent business processes and thus the overall success of the company from being adversely affected.

WHAT IS ISO 28000?
With the ISO 28000 standard, a safety management system has been developed that can be applied jointly to transport and logistics companies. The requirements include the examination of all important aspects in order to increase security within the entire supply chain. This includes the areas: Financing, production, information management, infrastructure for packaging, storage and the transport of goods between the various means of transport and delivery points. Among other things, compliance with legal requirements and the handling of identified security risks are checked on the basis of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHOM DOES ISO 28000 CONCERN?
ISO 28000 is applicable to all companies in the logistics sector and to shipping companies and is required by national and international customers. It is aimed at companies wishing to introduce or expand a proven safety management system, as well as organisations of all types and sizes that are active in areas such as manufacturing, services, storage and transport in connection with production or supply chains.
HOW ARE ISO 28000, ISO 9001 AND ISO 14001 RELATED?
ISO 28000 is a further component of the integrated management system and supplements the areas of quality, environment and occupational safety with safety in the entire supply chain. ISO 28000 is compatible with ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). The standard is based on a Plan-Do-Check-Act management system modelled on the proven ISO 14001 regulations. The risk-based approach of ISO 14001 is also similar to that of ISO 28000.
THE INTRODUCTION AND INTEGRATION OF ISO 28000 INVOLVES A MAJOR INVESTMENT
For industrial logistics companies and supply chain partners, most of the requirements of the standard are the same as those that exist on the customer side. The introduction of the standard results, from analysis to structuring and procedures, in compliance with your customer-specific requirements and thus represents a limited effort for organisation and documentation.
IS ISO 28000 RECOGNIZED BY OTHER SAFETY MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES?
ISO 28000 has been recognised by the EU Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) initiative.
