New labeling for products placed on the market in Great Britain
With the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU) on December 31, 2020, new requirements and regulations will come into force for the United Kingdom, as it is now a separate regulatory and legal area. One of these new requirements is the introduction of the United Kingdom Conformity Assessed (UKCA). According to this, products exported to Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) must bear a UKCA marking from January 01, 2022. A transitional period will apply until then; products with a valid CE marking can still be placed on the market in Great Britain until December 31, 2021. From next year, only the UKCA label will be accepted in the UK. Northern Ireland is an exception to this.
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UKCA CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT
Companies wishing to place goods on the UK market should address the new conformity assessment conditions at an early stage to ensure continued access.

WHEN IS UKCA MARKING REQUIRED?
UKCA marking can be used from 1 January 2021. However, in most cases the CE marking will still be valid until 31/12/2021 so that companies can familiarize themselves with the new requirements. From Jan. 1, 2022, only the UKCA mark will be permitted in the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is an exception to this.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT UKCA MARKING
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE UKCA AND CE MARKINGS?
The UKCA marking applies only to the United Kingdom and requires technical documentation in English only. Analogous to the CE marking for the EU-27 area, this applies to a wide variety of products. The requirements are largely identical for the time being.
Please note that the UKCA label applies exclusively to goods marketed in the UK. Products marketed in the EU are still subject to the CE label. The UKCA label is not valid here.
DO CE MARKINGS RETAIN THEIR VALIDITY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM?
Until 31.12.2021, a transitional phase will still be tolerated by the British government, during which the CE label will continue to be valid. From 01.01.2022, only the UKCA mark will be accepted in the UK.
You will find these and other questions shortly in our FAQ on the UKCA marking.
