Today, in addition to Quality, Environment and Safety, Energy use is one of the key metrics responsible companies are monitoring in order to limit and reduce their environmental impact and, in the process, significantly reducing their costs. The EN 16001 Standard provides a comprehensive and systemic approach to improve energy efficiency. It enables companies committed to improving energy efficiency to define and implement the right Energy Management System for their business. EN 16001 has been designed for all types of organizations from industrial plants to commercial facilities.
This standard could be easily combined with other management systems such as ISO 14001 as it could be considered as the “Energy Module”.

Among the key points of EN 16001, companies will be required to set-up an energy efficiency policy with a set of responsibilities and processes. An Energy metering plan needs to be defined and deployed along with measurement techniques to monitor and understand their energy consumption. Compliance to Energetic law will also be a requirement.
